Summary
As a bioinformatics master student before, I used to work as a data analyst (I did research in DNA & RNA), which kindles my interest in information visualization. How could InfoVis help to analysis data? During the course project last semester, I tried to find the answer with some hands-on experience.
Terrorism is seizing world’s attention when more and more serious bombing, hijacking and assault events are happening around the world and claimed by the terrorists. It is important for organizations and individuals to learn about how, when and where could a terrorism attack happen. This visualization project provides an overview of global terrorism attacks from 2012 and 2015, and specifically focus on the types of attacks and targets.
In this project, we designed and implemented this interactive visualization tool including a sankey graph, a complex stack bar chart, a activity map and a time-line tool, with d3.js and React. The database was implemented by Google Firebase. As a front-end developer, I was responsible for the stack bar chart, the activity map and the overall responsive layout.
